I was in a meeting at work with several furniture vendors that had arrived from out of town. Everyone's cell phones were ringing as word trickled in about what was happening. The 'important' things we were discussing suddenly became unimportant. I remember going back to my desk and looking at the news in disbelief. Watching the videos replay and play out the events of that day. Having lived near NYC in my youth and visited often, I still can not picture the New York skyline without the twin towers there. They just always were.

Great photo and tribute to the day.
I was at work also on 9/11/2001. I taught in Middle School. A co-worker came to me with the news. At first we thought it was an accident, as most people did. It was reported as an airline accident. After the second plane hit and we knew, the tears and emotions filled the building.
We had some students whose parents worked in Manhattan and some even at the WWT, so the guidance counselors brought those students to the office to give them the news of the attack. We didn't want the kids to find out through other students.
It was a very emotional day but we had to stay calm for the sake of the kids!
Being on the other side of the world we slept thru it . I was awakened by my husband early Tuesday (I still remember what day it was) with the news. I will never forget it and even though I have seen the footage a hundred times over it still shocks me.
omg none of us will ever forget that day...it's like 'where were you when kennedy was shot?'
What a heartache. I was at the library with my toddler daughter wondering why everyone was so upset. I hadn't watched the news that day and the car radio was broken. I remember going to the park after the library to enjoy my daughter on that sunny day for just a little while before we went home and turned on the news. Such fear and horror I have never known. But the response of the ordinary people of this country and of ordinary people around the world was amazing and beautiful. Thank God for that. May we know peace in this world.
I was asleep still - sleeping in. My father in law called and woke us up and said. "you better turn on the TV world war III has just started". We were in total awe as we lay there in bed for at least another hour watching the news in un-belief. I finally went to work (as a field technician) there wasn't a single place of business that would let me in to fix their computers that day, they had all either closed, or out of fear would not let any visitors in the building.
I was working at a school in London, my partner was the headteacher. He called to me in the next office and I rushed in and watched the second plane hit. It literally made my jaw drop open. We have just spent a few days in Milan and our room number was 911. I guess no Americans would want it. We were there on the anniversary too.
